司马长风的《中国新文学史》对中国现代文学史的编写产生了较大的影响,其独特的编写体例、分期方式及价值评判方式直接或间接地促进"文革"后中国现代文学史编写新格局的形成。《中国新文学史》充满活力的写史语言、富于个性和激情的叙述方式时至今日仍有较大的借鉴价值。在当前中国现代文学史编写面临转向的关头,回顾与梳理这部史著意在正本清源、启示当前。

After the Cultural Revolution,a new pattern in the writing of history of modern Chinese literature was gradually formed under the great influence of Sima Changfeng's History of New Chinese Literature,especially its unique framework,timeline setting and criteria for value judgment.Even today,we can still learn from its distinctive and enthusiastic modes of narration,as well as its exuberant language.At the watershed in the writing of history of modern Chinese literature,reviewing and analyzing this masterpiece may reveal the nature of the past and enlighten the present.
