山西素有"民歌之乡"的美誉,民歌历史悠久,生动反映了山西的地域特色。晋北民歌作为山西民歌的一个派别,由于地理环境和文化背景不同,呈现出自身的特色;晋北民歌内部又由于地理位置、地形地貌、民风民俗等方面的差异而在内容、风格、语言方面又有所不同。

Shanxi's ballads have a long history,known as the "the town of ballads" in the world,vividly reflect the regional characteristics of Shanxi.Because of the geographical and cultural backgrounds,the ballads of the northern area of Shanxi show their own characteristics as a faction of Shanxi's ballads;in the ballads of the northern area of Shanxi,there are difference in content,style,language aspects because of the difference of geographical location,topography,folk customs and so on.
